We were recently called out to a property in Bulwell, Nottingham, to carry out a kitchen sink replacement.

The customer had decided to upgrade from her existing stainless steel sink to a beautiful fireclay ceramic sink, paired with a traditional brass effect kitchen mixer tap. The transformation from the old unit to the finished installation is remarkable, and the results speak for themselves.

Out With The Old

The existing sink was a large single bowl stainless steel unit that had clearly seen better days. As the before photograph shows, the sink was heavily stained and worn, with significant deterioration around the seal and the surrounding worktop area.

Whilst the sink had been functional, the customer was keen to replace it with something that better reflected the character and style of her kitchen, and a fireclay ceramic sink was the natural choice.

Why Fireclay Ceramic?

Fireclay is a premium sink material with a long history in British kitchens. Produced by moulding a special clay mixture and firing it at extremely high temperatures, fireclay sinks are exceptionally hard, dense and durable.

The resulting surface is highly resistant to chipping, scratching and staining, and the deep gloss white finish retains its brightness and good looks far better than many alternative materials over time.

Fireclay sinks also have a satisfying weight and solidity to them that feels genuinely premium, and the classic styling suits everything from traditional farmhouse kitchens
through to more contemporary interiors.

The New Sink & Tap

The sink we installed is a fireclay ceramic double bowl and drainer unit, featuring two generously sized basins alongside a ribbed drainer section, all finished in a crisp, bright white glaze. The sticker visible in the images confirms the sink as a fireclay product, and the quality of the finish is immediately evident.

The double bowl layout is a practical and popular choice for busy family kitchens, giving the homeowner separate spaces for washing and rinsing without needing to drain and refill a single basin.

The Brass Effect Mixer Tap

Paired with the new sink is a traditional bridge-style mixer tap in a warm brushed brass effect finish, with white ceramic lever handles. This style of tap suits the character of a fireclay sink perfectly, bringing a classic, timeless feel to the finished installation.

The brass effect finish ties in beautifully with the white glaze of the sink, creating a combination that feels cohesive and considered rather than an afterthought. The tap is also a wall-mounted design, which keeps the worktop area around the sink clean and uncluttered.

The Finished Result

The difference between the before and after images could hardly be more striking. What was a tired, stained and worn stainless steel sink has been replaced with a gleaming fireclay ceramic unit that immediately lifts the feel of the entire kitchen area.

The brass effect tap adds a decorative touch that gives the space a real sense of personality and style. The customer was delighted with the finished result, and it is easy to see why.
